Most recruiters in the data and AI space have never hired a data engineer. They haven’t sat in a CDO seat trying to explain to a board why a platform migration is three quarters behind. They haven’t had to tell a CTO that the candidate they championed isn’t going to make it through the first performance review.

Ian has. That experience is the foundation of everything Salient Insights does.

“The difference between A-players and B-players is enormous. A-players don’t just meet goals they transform outcomes.”

Before founding Salient Insights, Ian served as Chief Data Officer and Principal Data Architect at one of Microsoft’s larger government engagements, where he built and scaled data teams, defined governance frameworks, and learned precisely what separates a hire that performs from a hire that looks right on paper.

That knowledge is the product. Not a database of resumes. Not a search algorithm. A practitioner’s eye applied to every candidate before a single introduction is made.

Ian is also the host of the Data & AI Heads Podcast, an organizer of the DataintheDFW community, and an active voice in the CDO and CHRO conference circuit including serving as a board member for Evanta’s CDAO Dallas summit.

Why We Exist

The recruiting industry is built on volume. We were built on the opposite: precision.

01

One candidate per search

Not a shortlist, not a pipeline. One person we are confident in presented once. This forces us to do the work, not push the work onto you.

02

Domain depth, not generalist coverage

We only work in data and AI. That focus means we understand the roles, the market, the tools, and the difference between someone who knows the vocabulary and someone who can actually do the work.

03

Access, not luck

The best candidates are rarely applying. They are referred, recruited directly, or found through communities. Our network and our presence in the field give us access most firms don’t have.

Community

Active in the data & AI community not just adjacent to it.

Ian speaks at, attends, and serves on the boards of leading data and AI conferences. He runs the DataintheDFW community for DFW-area data professionals, and hosts practitioners on his podcast weekly. This is not marketing it is the network that powers the search.

When a candidate comes to us through a referral from a CDO who heard Ian speak at a Corinium summit, that is the model working. Presence builds trust. Trust moves candidates.
